Art aside, I am preventing keyboards from burdening landfill sites. They become the canvasses upon which I create and project otherwise ineffable emotions and responses to life.
Andy Warholsaid that an artist
is somebody who produces things that
people don't need to have. This, of course, does not preclude wanting to
have said objects. If he were alive in this millennium, his finger might
point at me
and the Quirky B’s I create but he would, no doubt,
commend me for choosing a common item, the lowly computer keyboard, and
using it to create art, or at the very least, turning it into art. Try to imagine the Quirky B's in the manner Andy Warhol and other pop
artists might.
In taking an icon of mass culture, a
consummate consumer
product, and recreating it, defacing
it, redefining it, my art is the
antithesis of the sixties affectless repetition of soup cans and
multi-coloured Marilyns and yet it is as representative of popular culture as
any pop art. |
